Edwin Whitefield was one of the first artists exploring what would become the "bird's eye view" aesthetic popular in city-related art from the 1870s to the 1920s. He emigrated to the United States from England in 1838, and within two decades would make images like this of Brooklyn, Toronto, Quebec City, Montreal, Ithaca, Jamestown and Boston. As per the caption, this is "Hamilton, Canada West, from the Mountain" and it's number 29 in his "Original Views of North American Cities" series. Collect them all?
