"Buy By Grade" and "Achetez des Aliments Classés" prints (1960, 1961)

In 1960-1963 there was a Department of Agriculture designer who very much liked thin black lines and red and black—witness these two op-art gems (English and French versions) as well as the stark Bannissons la Mammite! booklet. Additionally, this kind of economic-modernism-with-graphic-script also appears in the Our Food Costs booklet. I look forward to finding more work by this uncredited civil servant.

The Canada Department of Agriculture and Ministère de l'Agriculture du Canada wordmarks on these covers have been replaced with the words ”Canadian Home Economics” and ”Économie Domestique Canadienne” due to Section 9 of the Canadian Trademarks Act.
