“Bird's Eye View of Victoria, Vancouver Island, B. C.” print by Eli Sheldon Glover (1878)

American artist Eli S. Glover has two pieces of work in this collection, this one and the in-worse-condition-but-just-as-splendid London in 1872 print. I don’t know if this Victoria one was originally in colour as well, but it kind of doesn’t need it - I’ve never before seen anything like the standing shadowed type spelling “Victoria Harbour,” “James Bay” and “Straits of Fuca.” They’re the typographic cherry on top of a wonderfully executed sundae. I erased a considerable amount of folding and yellowing on the Library of Congress original.
