“City of Ottawa, Canada” print by the Toronto Lithographing Co. (1895)

Whoever was working the pens at the Toronto Lithographing Co. in the 1890s was very good at what they did, and this Ottawa illustration shows them at the top of their game. It’s a westward view with thirty-some vignettes of local businesses that probably paid for the pleasure of being included, and I especially like the vignettes-within-vignettes seen Palace Furniture Store and Butterworth foundry images. Look closely and you can see the pre-1916 fire Victoria Tower on Parliament.
