"Culture of Ornamental Trees for Canadian Gardens" print (1957)

While Culture of Ornamental Trees may look simple on first glance—how much can you do with green and a black and white lawn scene?—there's much more if you dig deeper. Note no less than three different type faces in two different colours, absolute bonkers kerning (the space between letters) and the text sharing only a hint of a baseline in common. Whoever laid this out was either in a hurry, not caring, or on the avant-garde of the late 1970s thrown-together punk aesthetic. Take your pick. Whatever the answer is, I like it.
