"Guinea Pigs" print (1974)
Every year a new tranche of art joins the public domain, and I've been counting down to this orange and brown beauty's freedom for six months now. Some of the covers in the Agricultural Arts collection are timeless and float within a several-decade time-frame, too early, too late, or too much of a pastiche to be part of a specific style and moment. Guinea Pigs, though, is entirely and completely 1974, from the haircut to the turtleneck to the subject matter. And of course I'm wondering why the federal government decided guinea pigs needed explanation through an agricultural lens.
