One of my favourite parts of the Agricultural Arts collection is discovering, new, gentle, niches that the Federal and Provincial governments used to insert themselves into. For example: salads. Through the years both levels of government have published on the subject a few times; take a look a Salads All the Year Round put out by Ontario in 1951 or the Canada-wide Les Salades from 1964 for examples of this.
This pamphlet duo, though, wins top prizes for being extra niche. I didn't quite understand what was meant by "outdoor salads" until I read the French version's title of "salades pour pique-niques." Yes, this is a pamphlet about salads that Canadians can make that are presumably made with Canadian produce and are optimally consumed in a picnic setting. The drawing and typography is excellent, too.
