There are plantains in Canada, but probably not the ones you're imagining cooking with or eating. They're genetically related to those ones, yes, but besides residing in the Pantaginaceae family they haven't much more in common.
Am I an expert on these things? No. But the author of the booklet this print is based upon (I. John Bassett of the Plant Research Institute at the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa) certainly is.
