"The Dairy Goat" print (1957)

The "the Dairy Goat" type on this one rubbed me the wrong way for a long time. Then I got over it, learning to love how the goat lineweight works with it, and how the designer's unconventional and simple textured charcoal texture smears organize the page. At a time when most new things were shiny, oiled, big, and powerful (1957), they were channeling something else entirely. Five stars.

The Canada Department of Agriculture wordmark on this cover has been replaced with the words ”National Farming Forum” due to Section 9 of the Canadian Trademarks Act.
