While we don't know who took this photo or who typeset this booklet, we do know who wrote it: R. W. Oliver. In the 1950s he was Chief of Ornamentals at the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa, and his career with the Department spanned four decades. Also, a French version of this exists, published in 1953 with a slightly more straight-forward layout and the title Arbrisseaux d'Ornament et Plantes Grimpantes Pour les Jardins Canadiens

In his bibliography: Honey as a Stimulant to the Rooting of Cuttings (1939), Some Uses of Plant Hormones (1940), Deciduous Trees and Conifers More Commonly Used for Ornamental Purposes (1945), Outdoor Roses in Canada (1950), Annual Flowers for Canadian Gardens (1957), Trees For Ornamental Planting (1957), Hedges for Canadian Gardens (1959), Garden Rose Growing (1960), etc.

A booklet cover reproduction available at 12x18" or 24x36" on Epson Enhanced Matte 192 gsm paper printed with Epson UltraChrome XD2 archival ink. Sold in an open edition, unframed. The Canada Department of Agriculture wordmark on this cover has been replaced with the words "Canadian Gardening News" due to Section 9 of the Canadian Trademarks Act.
