"City of Fredericton, N.B." print by Alexander M. Hubley (1882)
If you’ve ever wanted a look at a bridgeless Fredericton, Alexander M. Hubley has you covered circa 1882. The Carleton Street, Princess Margaret, and Westmorland Street bridges were still decades in the future, the city hadn’t reached much further than Union Street (modern Needham and Saunders streets) and the Risteen Building (which I drew for my 305 Lost Buildings of Canada book) still stood at the corner of Smythe and Queen. Still feeling disoriented? The “bird” this bird’s eye view perspective map is from is definitely flying southward.
